Physical Activity Program

What is the Physical Activity Program?

Promoting Lifetime Activity for Youth logo

Our health educators promote increased physical activity in children and adults.

In school settings, we offer the Promoting Lifetime Activity for Youth through Play program to students in grades 4–8.  This teacher-directed program encourages students to get active and discover what they can do to make healthy lifestyle choices. Many students completing the program receive the Presidential Active Lifestyle award.

For adults we offer:

  • The Arizona Take Charge Challenge, a 12-week program that promotes increased understanding and support for higher levels of physical activity.
  • Worksite Wellness presentations are available at worksites and in community settings.
  • We also work with community partners to support the TrekAbout walking club.

Why is it needed?

Lack of physical activity is a big reason why many adults and children are becoming overweight and obese. Obesity increases the risk for diabetes and cancer, as well as contributing to heart disease. People who don’t know where to begin can learn valuable skills throughout these programs. Our programs help people enjoy the benefits of daily walking and increased physical activity.

Who is eligible?

The PLAY program is available to public and charter schools in Yavapai County.  The adult programs are available to all residents of Yavapai County.
