The Environmental Services Unit performs a variety of functions delegated by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). Environmental Services carries out all aspects of permitting and inspections of conventional and alternative onsite wastewater disposal systems up to 24,000 gallons per day, permitting of water and sewer line extensions, and approving the sanitary facilities for subdivisions.
Site investigation used to determine the suitability for onsite wastewater systems (septic systems). Formerly called “perc tests.”
Issue approvals for subdivision sanitary facilities.
Issue permits to construct conventional or alternative septic systems. Regulate installation of alternative on-site wastewater disposal. Inspection for transfer of ownership. Inspect construction.
Review well permit applications for referral to the Arizona Department of Water Resources on parcels 5 acres and smaller.
Provide information on the use of gray water and the potential for a tax credit.
Issue approvals for water and sewer line extensions.
Inspect & permit septic pumpers and waste haulers.
For ownership changes on a property with an onsite wastewater system.
NOTE: If the overall project includes water storage tanks, water treatment, new source approval or similar, please apply to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality for the entire project.
